Use children's experiences of different environments - eg Pakistan and Somalia. Children will often be able to recall minbeasts and plants that the family grew. Be aware of cultural attitudes to animals and pets.

A collaborative activity where children define the characteristics of mini-beasts. EAL children can use the chart to form sentences about a mini-beast.These pictures could be printed out twice, laminated and cut up to make a snap/matching pairs game .
